I do not know when it was actually updated, but I finally noticed that the Pennsylvania Gunsmith School (PGS) has updated its website. This is something that has been a long time in coming.

Although I have been working on them for years, I finally signed up for an Israel Military Industries (IMI) Ltd. ⇒ Tavor Armorer’s course. This course will familiarize me with the basic maintenance, breakdown, and conversions for the Tavor SAR & the X95. Additionally, it will cover left-to-right & right-to-left conversions on both models as well as 9mm conversions on the SAR. They are even going to make me take a written test (wish me luck).
I do not expect anything presented in this course to be groundbreaking for me. I do hope that there will be some tips and tricks that will allow me to find more efficient methods for doing certain jobs associated with working on the many Tavor’s that come into the shop.
I will take the course in June 2018. I have made arrangements so that the shop will open normal hours while I am attending the course. I will post more on this once I return from training.
For the Memorial Day holiday, Classic American Gunsmith will be closed 28 May 2018.
For some reason, I think I previously stated that the shop could be closed while I was out of town for training. As I will not be out of town, the shop will be on its normal schedule this week.
We will be open Monday through Friday 4:30 PM to 7 PM for walk-ins. Appointments are available at all other times (usually 9 AM to 9 PM) unless I am doing something that I cannot stop in the middle of (bluing, welding, etc.).

Classic American Gunsmith’s Gunsmith was originally scheduled to attend Cerakote Factory Certified Applicator Training 30 Apr -1 May 2018. Unfortunately, due to a family health issue, this had to be postponed until 15-16 Nov 2018.
In the meantime, Classic American Gunsmith is working with the fine folks at CoatingsUSA to offer Cerakote Factory Certified Application services to our clients. CoatingsUSA is a five-star customer choice applicator for Cerakote. They have a long-standing successful business producing high-quality work with a great track record for customer satisfaction. We can not think of a better company to partner with to provide Cerakote services to our clients.
Moving the jobs between our location in Charlottesville, VA and CoatingsUSA’s state of the art facility in Front Royal, VA requires some logistics and we are currently planning on a 3-4 week turn around time for Cerakote work.

After fifty-nine hours without, the power has been restored to the shop. Going forward we are on the regular schedule. Hope to see you all soon.
UPDATE: As of ~11p we have been without power for a full twenty four hours now. The wind is still loudly swirling around outside so doubt there will be a quick resolution. We noticed earlier that every meter on the Red Hill Substation is currently with out power. Watch here for updates.

EARLIER: We have been without power since ~11:00p yesterday. CVEC Outage map now has over 5,600 outages. The Red Hill Substation is usually (or at least seems to be) last to be addressed because we are the smallest (least number of customers). Thus we may not have power back for awhile.
We will not be holding appointments or shop hours during the outage. We will update the website as we know more.
We will still be here to meet the shipping companies that are bringing incoming transfers.
Lyman Products Corp. is recalling certain black powder rifles and pistols due to the potential of separation in the breech plug.
This recall includes black powder rifles and pistols regardless of caliber (including Deerstalker, Great Plains, Great Plains Hunter, Trade Rifle, Plains Pistol, Black Powder Kits, and replacement barrels; excluding Percussion Left Hand Great Plains and Left Hand Great Plains Hunter models) manufactured from March 1, 2017 to December 22, 2017. Barrels with the serial number in the range of A595960–A599026 are subject to this recall.
If you have a recalled item or do not know if you have a recalled item, immediately discontinue any use of the product(s) and contact the Lyman Customer Service Department.

There is snow/ice on the ground. In an effort to not damage the new driveway I am not going to remove the snow/ice.
I am in the shop working today. I am not going to make any appointments until the snow/ice is gone. If you would like to come to the shop I will be here. I recommend that you wait until the snow/ice has gone.
Please do not tear up the driveway trying to get up it.
