• • • The action is held in place on the barrel by a barrel nut. The barrel lug is sandwiched between the action and the barrel nut.
    • There is a smooth barrel nut and a standard (slotted) barrel nut.
    • The most effective method of removing the smooth barrel nut is to hold the barrel in a barrel vise and use a pipe wrench to loosen the nut. This will mar the nut severely enough that it cannot be reused. Replace it with a standard (slotted) nut.
    • To remove the barrel nut, turn it in the clockwise direction from the shooter’s perspective.
